Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship?
My name is Diana and I'm a lawyer. Jojo and I have been together for 13 years, we met at the school and we have two little dogs named Suri and Molly, who are like our daughters.
Care to tell us a little bit about your proposal?
I got engaged in 2019 on my dream trip to India in front of the Taj Mahal. Being together for several years, I was looking forward for Jojo to take the next step. He chose the most incredible ring and I said yes to the man of my dreams. I’m incredibly grateful to know I got to say ‘I do’ in front of one of the wonders of the world.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details
The first thing we decided on was the wedding date – the 10th of October which is actually the same date we starting dating. October is a beautiful month in Portugal It’s the harvest time, beginning of autumn, long days and still really warm. I designed our invitation which was really simple but elegant. It included acrylic, gold and green velvet which was then brought through to the reception too. We got traditionally married in the most beautiful church based in Porto and the reception was at Aqueduto Eventos where Cristina put our dream vision into life from the beautiful florals to all the food details. Our DJ music beats were amazing, we danced the night away and had the most epic party. As a midnight snack we decided to get McDonald happy meals for everyone! It went down as a real treat! And was a genius idea if I do say so myself!
How did you spend the morning of your wedding? How did you deal with the nerves leading up to the wedding?
I was super relaxed until the day, YES, UNTIL THE DAY OF THE WEDDING. I was so nervous!!! I traveled with my sister to Aqueduto that morning, where we got dressed. Lucky for me my sister was my make-up artist and she could see I was incredibly nervous. Tears and laughter came in equal measure - It's very complicated to manage so many emotions in a morning. My sister and hairdresser managed to distract me and the rest of the morning just flew by!
Tell us about your main outfits of the wedding day.
From an early age, I always knew what kind of dress I wanted for the big day – beautiful, simple and practical – I don't like very bold looks that become uncomfortable. My dress was designed by the stylist Sophia Kah it was a mermaid shape, all embroidered in gemstones with an olive leaf effect, open back and the perfect length tail. For the church ceremony I used a silk overskirt which made the dress look more elegant and romantic and my veil had engraved “and I was made for you” a small excerpt from the music that has accompanied me and Jojo for so many years.
As for the accessories on the day my shoes were Jimmy Choo (I DO IN A CHOO 😉), my earrings, engagement and wedding bands were Tiffany’s. The headdress with olive leaves was Catavassalo and my grandmother gave me a beautiful gold bracelet.
Jojo was dressed by Paulo Battista and his shoes were Christian Louboutin.
Any advice for future brides?
The only advice I can give is to enjoy your engagement chapter and enjoy the planning processes, because it is wonderful. As for the wedding day, live it to the fullest as every minute counts! It will be the most beautiful day of your lives.
